How to Find the Perfect Hairbrush

Natural bristles, plastic bristles or paddle brushes - there are various types of brushes on the market. But which model is best suited for which hair type.

In the following article you will learn which hairbrush is the best for brushing your hair and how to care for your brushes carefully.

Detangler brush for easy detangling of the hair

The Detangle Brush is perfect for detangling fine hair. If you have fine, long hair, the detangler brush is a good choice. The bristles of the brush, which resembles a small hedgehog, are made of a soft and very flexible plastic. Due to the different length of the bristles, the brush slides almost naturally through dry or wet hair. Small nodules are easily removed without tugging, so that the detangle brush is also very suitable for sensitive children's hair. One of the most popular models is the Tangle Teezer, which you can buy in numerous versions.

Paddle brush for long and straight hair

The paddle brush or paddle brush is ideal for long, thick hair. The brush is very wide and you can easily comb straight hair with just a few brush strokes. The paddle brush also works well when blow-drying, because the large surface ensures that the hair dries quickly. The mane cannot be blow-dried in shape with the paddle brush, so the hair should be as straight as possible.

Skeleton brush for short hair

The skeleton brush is a good choice for short or curly hair. Short hair can be styled well with these models. The shape of the brush ensures that a lot of air gets to the hair when blow-drying. This makes the hairstyle look light and light. Due to the widely spaced bristles, a curly mane can also be tamed very well with a skeleton brush.

Round brushes in different sizes

A small round brush brings short and fine hair into shape. Layered hairstyles also come into their own with a round brush. When blow-drying, the small brush provides more volume. Large round brushes are suitable for long hair. The longer the hair, the larger the diameter of the round brush should be. When buying, you will often find an indication of the hair length for which the brush model is suitable. Some brushes have holes in the brush head, which ensure that the air flows better when blow-drying and the hair dries faster. It is important that the round brush lies well in the hand and is not too heavy, so you can blow-dry the hair easily.

Warm air brushes - this is how the hair becomes really smooth

A warm air brush works with batteries, rechargeable batteries or electricity. During the brushing process, warm air is blown out through small holes between the bristles. The electric brush thus combines a round brush and a hair dryer. You set the temperature with a controller, usually the brushes also have a cold setting. Some models offer an automatic turning function that makes styling even easier. Which hot air brush is best for you depends on the length and structure of the hair. If you only use the brush occasionally for styling, a simpler model is probably sufficient. A more powerful variant is recommended for daily hairdressing.

Natural or plastic - which bristles are the right ones?

In addition to the shape of the brush, the material of the bristles plays an important role. Brushes with natural bristles are well suited in most cases. Many models were made with boar bristles. The bristles resemble the structure of our hair and do not destroy the natural cuticle layer when brushing. In addition, the wild boar bristles distribute the sebum from the hair roots in the hair, making the hair look shiny and well-groomed. However, this is disadvantageous for very greasy hair, because the greasing effect quickly makes the hair look streaky.

You can get models that combine natural bristles and plastic bristles. With the natural bristles, these brushes provide perfect care for your hair and at the same time massage the scalp with somewhat longer plastic bristles.

If you fall back on a brush with plastic bristles, you should pay attention to ground bristle heads. If the bristles are too sharp, otherwise scrape the scalp or pull out hair when brushing.

Caring for hairbrushes properly

A good hairbrush should last as long as possible, so some care is required. You should clean your brushes thoroughly every two weeks. Remove any hair that is stuck between the bristles. This works especially well with a very coarse-toothed comb. Or just rub two brushes together, this will also loosen the hair. The residues can also be removed with an old toothbrush. Now put the brush in warm water and add a little shampoo. Allow everything to foam well and rinse the whole thing off with clear water, the hairbrushes are also nice and clean with shaving foam. Give generous foam on the bristles and let everything work well. Rub two brushes together to remove all dandruff and dirt.

If you clean a plastic hairbrush, you can do that with a little baking soda and water. Simply mix a little baking soda with water and rub the bristles and brush well with it. A toothbrush can also be helpful here. Then let the hairbrush dry on a towel. The bristles should point downwards.
